Consuelo Foundation in Venezuela: Phase 2
When a devastating earthquake struck Venezuela, The Consuelo Foundation launched an emergency relief campaign to provide immediate support to families who had lost everything.
On June 29, we recruited two local volunteers to provide 44 families with hot meals, clean water, flashlights and vital medication as they searched through the rubble for their loved ones.
Among those we helped was Katiuska Poletti, whose great-aunt, Eleonora Poletti, was a lifelong friend of Consuelo Guma, the inspiration behind our foundation. We were inspired by Katiuska’s strength, compassion, and willingness to help others in her own time of need.
A few weeks later, we invited Katiuska to become part of The Consuelo Foundation. She brought together an incredible team of 22 local volunteers, and together they created our first international chapter, known as Fundación Consuelo de Venezuela.
On July 25, a local company in Venezuela generously donated Consuelo Foundation T-shirts for the volunteer team. Over the next several days, the team worked tirelessly purchasing food, drinks, hygiene items, toys, children's activity kits, and other essential supplies. They also baked muffins, prepared homemade meals, packed donations, and organized everything needed for the trip to La Guaira.
On July 31, Katiuska and her team loaded supplies into a truck and a car and made their way to La Guaira. They even stopped along the way to prepare more fresh meals before arriving.
On August 1, the team visited their first two displacement camps, Campamento La Escala and Campamento Casa de Oración. They served hot dogs and distributed medicines, hygiene supplies, toys, clothing, and other essential items, while spending time with the affected families.
On August 2, the team continued their mission in Catia La Mar, where they distributed the remaining supplies and organized face painting and fun activities for the children to bring a little joy during such a difficult time.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to distribute:
• 250 freshly prepared meals • 600 hydration items • 200 children's activity bags • 100 packages of baby food • Toys and entertainment kits • Medical and hygiene supplies • Clothing and other essential items
On August 5, Katiuska continued serving those affected by delivering supplies to patients at a military hospital. As of August 6, we are already working alongside Katiuska and the team to organize the next major delivery of food and essential supplies for families still recovering.
A survivor became a volunteer. That volunteer inspired others to serve. Together they created Fundación Consuelo de Venezuela, a team that will continue to serve their own community long after this disaster.
